Vancouver's Black Mountain has been named to the top 10 of the prestigious and kinda newish Polaris Music Prize. The Top 10 has just been named, with BM (Black Mountain)'s album 'In the Future' among the finalists.
The grand prize of $20,000 will be given to Canada's top album based solely on artistic integrity. No emphasis will be put on album sales, press or who has the nicest shoes. If the latter was the case, then my money would be on Pennyloafers Magee, but since when did my opinion mean anything?
The rest of the Top 10 is rounded out as follows:
Plants and Animals - Parc Avenue
Basia Bulat - Oh, My Darling
Stars - In Our Bedroom After The War
Caribou - Andorra
Shad - The Old Prince
Kathleen Edwards - Asking For Flowers
Two Hours Traffic - Little Jabs
Holy Fuck - LP
The Weakerthans - Reunion Tour
The Polaris Music Prize was founded by Steve Jordan, a former A&R Executive with Warner Music Canada and True North Records.
Previous winners include Toronto's Final Fantasy (He Poos Clouds, 2006) and Montreal's Patrick Watson (Close To Paradise, 2007).

And for the record, I think Pennyloafers Magee was robbed.
